Summer Staples

I'm attending the Jennyfleur Loves fashion show tonight, so with a prospective busy day ahead I thought I'd sneak in a little outfit post while the morning is still young :)

I wore this a couple days ago for an afternoon stroll downtown & then out to supper with the girls. Unlike most days, I didn't have to think too much about this outfit. It was the first thing I put together & I felt it worked well. It features three of my newest items: Steve Madden pistol boots, H&M denim jacket,  & an oversized neon green tee from Gap. The boots are my favourite; I've been wearing them non-stop all week. Same goes for the denim jacket. Along with the maxi skirt, they are all great staple pieces for Summer!

Going-away supper for Sabrina (in the coral) at my favourite vegan restaurant in Vancouver, The Naam!

Naam Salad starter with parsley tahini dressing - so so good!

Being crafty & lazy at the same time. I didn't have time to run out for a pair of spandex shorts & desperately needed something to layer under my sheer skirt. These white leggings worked, but I didn't like the length showing. Stubbornly refusing to take off my boots, I just cut them off. Hey, it worked.

I'm off to catch up on my sleep (worked at 4AM this morning, eesh) & then a little shopping! I'll be sure to post photos from tonight's show as soon as possible :)

Boyfriend Jeans + Florals

Here's a new outfit post for you all, finally! It's a casual Summer evening look with my new boyfriend jeans. I attempted to stay awake & enjoy the gorgeous day as long as possible after my 4AM shift... So if I'm looking somewhat sleepy-eyed I've got a good excuse. My 60 hour work week is certainly taking it's toll. It's just the beginning & I'm already wondering how I"m going to make it through the Summer in one piece!

A few words on the outfit: I re-attached the pussy-bow tie to my floral Zara blouse to mix things up & threw on my new favourite jeans (if you're interested in buying them they run a little big I think; these are a 0 & a bit too big around the waist for me). Ever-simple with the accessories, I wore some simple pointy-toed black heels, my standard MK watch, & my favourite MK bag.

Speaking of which... my Michael Kors Vanilla Hamilton bag tragically fell prey to my carelessness & a pair of indigo jeans on Monday. After only 20 minutes of rushing to work, about a fifth of the back was bright blue. I was pretty much traumatized. Thankfully the girls at Michael Kors Metrotown very sweetly attempted some damage control for me. It's still there, but is now more of a faded blue than horrifyingly bright. Lesson learned.

Don't mind the crazy hair static....

Last but not least: I'm currently working on answering all your lovely comments every spare chance I get! Please have patience with me, I'm honing my time management skills ;)  Until then, hope you're all having a fabulous week!

Peach Chiffon

No I was not attending an event. In fact I had no destination in mind at all when I threw on this Summery tea-party-esque look this morning. Isn't that why we have blogs in the first place? To get away with wearing whatever we want? It's much more feminine than most of the outfits I've been wearing lately but I think switching things up is nice for a change.

I bought this peach chiffon dress from American Apparel for a wedding last Spring. At the same time I purchased this lace bodysuit so as to the layer the two sheer top portions. For a pop of colour I added turquoise socks scrunched down a tad, & my newest JC wedges. The socks-in-shoes made a significant improvement comfort-wise so I thankfully escaped today without any war-wounds. It was a cool day once again, so I topped things off with my military green Spring jacket (pictured here with & without).

Now, I have two (rather random) inquiries for you:

1. Spray-on tan, yay or nay? The above photos are a key example of how ghostly pale I am. Normally I don't mind, but with Summer & short-season approaching it makes me somewhat self-conscious. And I think tanned skin definitely goes better with this seasons key pastels/neons. What do you think?

2. This one is for my Deutschophile readers: I need some suggestions for good German films to help me practice for my upcoming German final. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

As always, thanks for reading :)

Lemon Drop Jeans

I know I'm preaching to the converted, but there really is nothing like a little shopping to brighten a grey day. Especially when that shopping involves neon yellow jeans. That's right. Newest addition to my wardrobe & it wasn't very practical at all. Who cares? I love them to pieces & I can't stop smiling.

I was wearing this striped top from Banana Republic when I tried them on, and liked it so much I decided to wear it just so. The shirt is admittedly ill-fitted, but it was the smallest size & at the time I had to have it anyways. Because it was a cooler day I paired it with a black blazer (somewhat fearful of looking bumble-bee esque, but it was my only feasible option). Steve Madden peep-toe heels to dress up the jeans a little, neutral coloured bag, & classic Ray Ban wayfarers. Which is where a story comes in....

It's not often I share random personal stories on the blog, but here is one for the books: I, at the ripe old age of 22, have developed a new phobia of birds. I could go into great detail but basically a few days ago I was attacked by a crow TWICE in one hour. As in out of nowhere it pitched on my head and started attacking me. After googling I discovered it's fledgling season, when mama crows are teaching their young to fly. This makes them protectively aggressive to passers-by. They also have great facial recognition, hence why I've been wearing sunglasses on grey days, feeling as if I'm hiding from particularly threatening paparazzi. If you live in Vancouver I suggest you steer clear of Hornby Street & other tree-dense areas (crow territory/the sight of the crime) until July.

Last but not least, my hair is pulled back for once! I'm not a huge fan of having my hair up (unless I'm at home where it's in a constant messy bun) so this is one of few times you'll see it this way. I did a little french braid in the front to make it a little less plain. The main reason it is up though is because I finally tested out the Wella conditioner I received in my April Glossybox (here). I should have known better. It made my hair (which is very fine) disgustingly greasy, & of course I was short on time so there was no fixing it. Some days ponytails really are warranted.

Colour Experiment

When I saw that today's forecasted rain was a no-show, I decided to celebrate with some colour experimentation. Orange & purple isn't an every day combination of mine, but I tried it, I liked it, I wore it. They're actually my two favourite colours this Spring; so why not pair them up?

There's nothing more comfortable for summer than an oversized batwing shirt. More importantly, they are incredibly versatile. You can pair them with denim cut-offs, a pencil skirt, jeans, or in this case colourful trousers! This orange batwing top c/o Oasap is one of my ever-growing collection. The pastel purple trousers have some pretty unique detailing which makes me love them even more (squared pocket seam, zippers in the front of each leg, & slight ruching). My nails were already painted in Lily 610 by Revlon, so I was unintentionally a little matchy-matchy.

To avoid looking too colour-crazy I accessorized fairly neutrally. Jewellery wise it was pretty difficult to match anything with the vibrant orange top (gold blended, others clashed too much), so I opted for a vintage white + black costume necklace & simple bangle. I also attempted to break in my new JC Pizan wedges. I managed 4 blocks, but admittedly came out with some war wounds. All shoes give me issues the first couple times, so I'm still in the optimistic zone with these beauties ;)

On one last note: I'd like to thank you all for the overwhelming amount of comments I've received lately. I respond to each & every one of them, though it may take me a day or two (I'm a busy gal!). Keep them coming - they're so very appreciated!

Spring in Winterland

I'm so envious of seemingly everyone else in the world who isn't living in the midst of Winter this March 25th. I woke up this morning with an enthusiastic plan to take a nice Spring outfit photo. That's when I noticed it was a complete blizzard outside. Fortunately it cleared up this afternoon so I braved the below freezing temperature & attempted to create a Spring-esque look that was still somewhat weather appropriate (don't let the silly smile fool you; I was beyond freezing).

Bright colours were an obvious choice, pairing red with fluorescent orange (layered over a cream lace bodysuit). My House of Holland suspender tights were a clear necessity, so I chose black lace up boots & a black vintage cross-body bag to tie things together. Otherwise I accessorized fairly plainly, with a cream + gold bangle from H&M & my Chantilly Lace earrings by Stella & Dot.

I have two exams coming up this Tuesday & Wednesday so you can expect something new the second those are out of the way. Until then I'll be attaching myself wholly to my text books & language CDs... oh the excitement ;)

Hope you've all had a wonderful weekend - thank you so much for reading!

Jennyfleur Loves on the East Coast

Presenting my first 'look of the day' shot here in Newfoundland! Despite the generally picturesque surroundings, it's unbelievably complicated to find a good place to take photos. Snowbanks which are storeys high block the view; the roads themselves are muddy. On top of that it's been swinging between -10 & - 26; needless to say I wasn't as picky with photos as I normally would be. Dear Mom was obliging enough to take these; she's just begun a photography course & seems enthusiastic to have me as her guinea pig ;)

Now, more about the outfit! Recall this post from January, when I visited the fabulous Jennyfleur Loves boutique in Vancouver? Well the three lovely items I purchased that day are the basic components of this outfit (shorts, blouse, sunnies). Simple & comfortable, with a pop of polka dot print, & my favourite vibrant red shorts. The sunnies, albeit tortoise mismatching,  were absolutely necessary - the snow makes things incredibly bright & hard on the eyes. A pair of black Prada Baroque sunnies are definitely a must on my current 'wish list'. The bag is quite the oldie, a purchase from Calgary in 2006 (the perks of returning home to a second closet).

My mind is lusting for Spring & missing the warmth of Vancouver. Perhaps I subconsciously chose this outfit of primarily Vancouver-bought pieces? Either way, I shan't be on the East Coast for that much longer, so I'll make the best of it! I'll show you some gorgeous Newfoundland scenery in the next day of two, as soon as a get a chance to do some exploring around :)

Neon & Peplum

A little neon there, a little peplum here. This will be my last outfit post from Vancouver, so I had to make it special. I'm anticipating a lot more heavy winter clothes once I hit the East Coast so I wanted to be as Spring-y as possible while I could. That being said, Vancouver seems to be prepping me for the upcoming climate change by mixing the pleasant sunshine with bitter cold. It couldn't have been above 1 degree so our photo shoot was cut a little short, & filled with laughter over my red nose (most apparent in the last of these photos) & incredulous looks from bundled-up passers-by.

I showed you this neon yellow jersey pencil skirt (à la ASOS) in my last post & was delighted by the positive feedback I got from you guys. Trust me, I love it too. I decided to pair it with my 'Scuba-esque' peplum top from H&M (also fairly new) & my Steve Madden peep-toe heels. I really liked the resulting look & chose to wear it for my last day of work at BR. The only thing I'd like to change about it would be the addition of a little arm party. My Michael Kors watch is looking a little lonely there by itself. And no, that pesky hair elastic that I unfortunately overlooked does not count.

So there you have it; one last Vancouver look. Tomorrow I fly across the country. Today? Well I have yet to pack a single thing but that's beside the point. I've got an irresistible urge to go shopping, the sun is shining, & Kris & I are going to have one last friend date. It's going to be lovely :)

Mint Punch

Mint & burgundy & faux fur make for an interesting mix. This is what I wore on my extremely casual day off yesterday. I didn't intend for a 'look of the day' shoot to ensue, but I thought I'd show you these anyhow. I was in the exact mood for mint & somehow this is the outfit that grew out of that. The burgundy cropped sweater is my go-to item for a lazy day, or one spent studying in a cozy spot. The faux fur was a definite necessity as it was, grudgingly, freezing outside. I've got a million & one summer outfits planned already... now if only the weather would cooperate!

Outfits aside, life has been more than a little crazy lately. Big changes are in the air, some of which I'll share with you very soon. I've been asked if they're 'good' changes. The ever-positive side of me likes to think that all changes are good ones, no matter type of situation they arise from. As a result though, I'm a little behind on responding to comments & keeping up with the numerous blogs I follow. Hopefully you'll all bear with me, because your support & feedback is what keeps this blog going & me smiling!

Pink & Florals

Good morning everyone! This will be a fairly quick post just to share this little leftover Valentine's Day look: what I wore to work yesterday/on a pre-work wander. It's girly, it's pink, it's matchy matchy. Admittedly I tend to get in those modes during holiday occasions. Humorously enough I'm pretty sure I was the only one wearing pink out & about, & certainly the only one at work. Is it really just me who likes to colour coordinate with holidays?

Other than the obvious excessive use of pink I really liked this outfit; I'm a huge fan of high-waisted pants & I really liked these paired with the vintage pink belt. The ditsy floral top is a bit of an oldie... purchased in Dublin in 2010. I don't wear it very often so I was glad to incorporate it in my Valentine's Day look. As for the Cambridge Satchel, it really is a head-turner. I've yet to go somewhere without having people stop me to pass a comment. It's such a vibrant, fun piece :)

What did you wear this Valentine's Day?
