New In // Pile of Goodies

Work. Study. Eat. Sleep. In pretty much that order. My week has been pure madness, hence the week-long blogging hiatus. Fortunately I had this morning off to treat myself to a little shopping, as well as get in this post. Latest outfit post will be up soon :) Meanwhile, here are some of the goodies I've gotten in the last 24 hours:

Steve Madden Leopard Print Loafers (similar pair
here)

Aqua cropped skinnies (here) + Boyfriend Jeans (here), both from the Gap

Cropped denim jacket from H&M

Last but not least, my May Glossybox (this will be my last, as I cancelled my subscription). Late again, but otherwise pretty perfect. Every single product was something I was on the verge of running out of myself, so this really came in handy.

- Simple Eye Make-up Remover
- Simple Facial Wash Gel
- Sebastian Volupt Shampoo
- Curel Foot Therapy
- Boxx Cream Concealer

I'd also like to say thanks for all the comments in my absence! You can absolutely expect responses to each of them over the next couple of days. Hope you've all had a fantastic weekend! :)

Lemon Drop Jeans

I know I'm preaching to the converted, but there really is nothing like a little shopping to brighten a grey day. Especially when that shopping involves neon yellow jeans. That's right. Newest addition to my wardrobe & it wasn't very practical at all. Who cares? I love them to pieces & I can't stop smiling.

I was wearing this striped top from Banana Republic when I tried them on, and liked it so much I decided to wear it just so. The shirt is admittedly ill-fitted, but it was the smallest size & at the time I had to have it anyways. Because it was a cooler day I paired it with a black blazer (somewhat fearful of looking bumble-bee esque, but it was my only feasible option). Steve Madden peep-toe heels to dress up the jeans a little, neutral coloured bag, & classic Ray Ban wayfarers. Which is where a story comes in....

It's not often I share random personal stories on the blog, but here is one for the books: I, at the ripe old age of 22, have developed a new phobia of birds. I could go into great detail but basically a few days ago I was attacked by a crow TWICE in one hour. As in out of nowhere it pitched on my head and started attacking me. After googling I discovered it's fledgling season, when mama crows are teaching their young to fly. This makes them protectively aggressive to passers-by. They also have great facial recognition, hence why I've been wearing sunglasses on grey days, feeling as if I'm hiding from particularly threatening paparazzi. If you live in Vancouver I suggest you steer clear of Hornby Street & other tree-dense areas (crow territory/the sight of the crime) until July.

Last but not least, my hair is pulled back for once! I'm not a huge fan of having my hair up (unless I'm at home where it's in a constant messy bun) so this is one of few times you'll see it this way. I did a little french braid in the front to make it a little less plain. The main reason it is up though is because I finally tested out the Wella conditioner I received in my April Glossybox (here). I should have known better. It made my hair (which is very fine) disgustingly greasy, & of course I was short on time so there was no fixing it. Some days ponytails really are warranted.

Striped tee - Banana Republic

Palm Tree Print

It's funny how your closet seems to gobble up items. You think you've nothing new to wear until you randomly see an old item in a new light. So when the rain abated this morning & I peered into my closet it wasn't accompanied by the whiney woe is me "I need new clothes" but rather "hey this might work..." It's a pretty Summery look (probably too summery for such a day, but hey a girl can dream) but I liked it & hope some of you will too!

First things first - how cute is this palm tree print? It's a piece I purchased last Summer but somehow it got lost in the depths of my closet. Now that it's resurfaced I have about 5 combinations I want to try it with. For today I was in between this navy pencil skirt & my royal blue American Apparel skirt. In the end I chose this one because it's something you haven't seen before, & also provides more contrast with the flowy printed crop top. In the accessory department I went with two pink vintage items: cute costume earrings from my grandmother, & pink belt from my Auntie. I also chose my pastel yellow satchel to compliment the pastels in the top. My nails were painted in Baby Blue by OPI, more of a leftover from yesterday than anything.

And in other news: life. is. busy. My German final exam is in less than two weeks (terrified = understatement), the job hunt is ongoing, & I'm also in the midst of making some design changes to le blog. So for the time being, just bear with me & keep the comments a-comin' :)

When in Doubt, Layer

Yesterday was a prime example of how unpredictable the weather can be in a coastal city. Over the course of the day it was grey without rain, grey with, sunny, sun showers, windy, warm, cold... pretty much all over the place. So when I had to get dressed for a lunch date with the girls I decided layering was probably key.

My base piece was a ditzy floral printed sundress, layered with a creme lace-back cardigan, & military-green Spring jacket I got in Ireland a couple of years ago. I added a couple colourful bracelets from H&M, as well as a a vintage patent cross-body bag. I chose my Dolce Vita shoes mainly because they're the only pair which doesn't irritate my wounded ankle (care of my newest JC's). Fortunately they also happened to match.

It turned out to be a fairly versatile look as I also wore it later for a walk along the Seawall (which quickly turned into hiding from the rain beneath trees overlooking Burrard Bridge), and later still when I went out for supper. I brought it from day to evening by switching the jacket for a blazer & the bracelets for my gold Michael Kors watch.

I was wearing:
Floral Sundress - Jasmine London (2010)
Military green jacket - Primark (2010)
Creme Lace Cardigan - Vero Moda
Black wedges - Dolce Vita
Bracelets - H&M
Bag - Vintage

Colour Experiment

When I saw that today's forecasted rain was a no-show, I decided to celebrate with some colour experimentation. Orange & purple isn't an every day combination of mine, but I tried it, I liked it, I wore it. They're actually my two favourite colours this Spring; so why not pair them up?

There's nothing more comfortable for summer than an oversized batwing shirt. More importantly, they are incredibly versatile. You can pair them with denim cut-offs, a pencil skirt, jeans, or in this case colourful trousers! This orange batwing top c/o Oasap is one of my ever-growing collection. The pastel purple trousers have some pretty unique detailing which makes me love them even more (squared pocket seam, zippers in the front of each leg, & slight ruching). My nails were already painted in Lily 610 by Revlon, so I was unintentionally a little matchy-matchy.

To avoid looking too colour-crazy I accessorized fairly neutrally. Jewellery wise it was pretty difficult to match anything with the vibrant orange top (gold blended, others clashed too much), so I opted for a vintage white + black costume necklace & simple bangle. I also attempted to break in my new JC Pizan wedges. I managed 4 blocks, but admittedly came out with some war wounds. All shoes give me issues the first couple times, so I'm still in the optimistic zone with these beauties ;)

On one last note: I'd like to thank you all for the overwhelming amount of comments I've received lately. I respond to each & every one of them, though it may take me a day or two (I'm a busy gal!). Keep them coming - they're so very appreciated!

Sunny Vancouver

Vancouver in the sunshine is a completely different world. Not just from the bitterly windy other coast, but the rainy city itself in mid February. Since my arrival the weather has been undeniably gorgeous. What I remember as a quiet city on a wet Monday morning has seemingly increased tenfold in population. Fighting the jet-lag we went for a stroll along the Seawall yesterday to soak up some Vitamin D. My skin is a pretty ghostly shade of white, but even already my freckles are starting to burst through. So many people were out tanning on the beach & in the park. I can't wait to take a picnic & a book to put in an afternoon there myself.

As always on a sunny day, I wanted as much colour as possible. The base of my outfit was one of my all-time favourite vintage pieces - my striped Adrienne Vittadini skirt. I paired it with a mint crop top from American Apparel, atop a white bandeau, & accessorized with my pastel yellow satchel, gold/white bangle & sandals, & a hand-made necklace (black braided with pastel baubles). Classic Ray Ban wayfarers to top it off. Simple look for a Summery day :)

Prints for a Rainy Day

Super messy ponytail, glasses, & jeans. Not my usual, but it was raining & I was a bit pressed for time. I certainly didn't intend to photograph the look, but the rain ceased for about 5 minutes, so I gave it a shot. I showed you a look with this striped cape last week, but the majority of my things are packed for my flight tomorrow, so spare me. I went for prints, both as an anti-rain tactic & in response to the fact that I missed Mary Katrantzou at The Room in Vancouver last night (Kris was lucky enough to attend; hope she posts about the event soon! hint hint ;) Mom commented that the blocked stripes & florals made me look like I was disoriented while dressing... don't think print-blocking has caught on in NL quite yet haha.

I've got a million & one things to get done today, but I'm feeling a tad Zombie-esque. Here's hoping my tea date this afternoon will give me the energy I need to finish everything before tomorrow! Hope you all have the loveliest of weekends <3

May Day

So what I didn't happen to mention yesterday is that it's been snowing on & off since I returned to NL Saturday night. This should offer you an explanation as to why my outfit is decidedly more Autumn appropriate than May Day wear. I probably should have included more florals or brights, but I was feeling a much more layered look with some rose & burgundy thrown into the mix. Nothing fancy, just something to keep me decently warm while running errands.

I was inspired to pull out my liquid leggings when I saw this look by Breanne of Flattery, worn in Sydney (though to be fair, it actually is Autumn there). This is actually the first time I've worn them in over a year. On the top I layered with a charcoal silk tee from Lush, burgundy cropped jumper from Urban Outfitters, & H&M rose striped poncho/cape/shawl/thingy; all purchases from last Autumn. I accessorized simply with a knit circle scarf from ASOS, Michael Kors Gold Chronograph watch & Michael Kors ballet flats.

I'll be returning to Vancouver in less than 2 weeks & I'm getting pretty excited. I'm coveting some real Spring weather, time to finally shop & build my Summer wardrobe, amazing vegan restaurants, the beach, lovely friends... I could go on forever, believe me.

Sunshine Stroll

It seems like Friday really was Winter's last hurrah. It's been a beauty of a weekend, with sunshine to make up for the minimally warm temperatures. Mom & I went out this morning for a little post-errand stroll, which was enjoyable if not great for photos. The sun was so bright it really makes my skin appear ghastly white. Nonetheless I've been all smiles all day.

It was one of those mornings where you stare blankly at your closet for a solid hour. Time-pressed & in pure frustration, I finally went with my cognac leather shorts, paired with a relatively ancient printed trapeze top (tucked in). Stella & Dot earrings, H&M bangle, H&M x Versace medallion bracelet, Karen Walker Number Six sunnies, & my black Michael Kors ballet flats. Et voila :)

I've another exam coming up this week, so hopefully I'm able to tear myself away from sunshiney outings long enough to cram. I'm just getting back into my running routine & it feels so good I'm finding it hard to sit still for long. I've also been on a huge cooking kick (used this Chef Chloe recipe for vegan Mexicali Sliders today & I highly recommend trying it!).

That's all for now. Hope you've all had a fabulous weekend & thanks for reading! :)

Never Ending Snow

Just when I thought the brink of Spring was upon us, it turned into a blizzard. An outfit of the day was out of the question, so I decided to embrace the weather, go outside in the snow, & pretend I'm about 5 years old. It's pretty perfect snow man / snow ball weather... not to mention a silly afternoon study break. Nothing says "safety first" like a pair of 5 inch platform heels (green suede; sadly they were enveloped in snow & unphotographed). Paired with my Soia & Kyo houndstooth coat & my oh so furry white mittens from H&M (acquired during the Versace for H&M event to prevent near frostbite).

Headed out for a mother-daughter supper + movie date. Have a lovely weekend everyone, & here's hoping your current version of "Spring" isn't quite like this one!

Casual Saturday

I am not now, nor have I ever been (nor I suspect will ever be) a Jeans kinda girl. Jeans are what I wear when I can't stand the dead of winter cold, or on lazy days when I want to haul on something in 2 seconds flat. To be outrightly honest the reason for my jean-dread is they make me horribly self-conscious about my legs (we all have that one thing we dislike about ourselves; that one is mine). But there comes a point when you have to say, the hell with it; this is me, I'll wear what I wear, & be happy about it. So while light-wash jeans & bold lace accentuation might be a strange choice for a self-conscious girl I couldn't help but loving this pair of Silvers. I've only worn them a couple times, but with a cheery mood (ABBA-fueled) & some errands to run, they were what I chose this morning to go with my favourite scuba-esque peplum top.

When I do wear jeans I always like to dress them up a little, particularly with a pair of simple heels. Lately I've been favouring the pointy-toe; ever since digging up several such pairs in my old closet here in NL. As for other accessories, I went with my Vanilla Hamilton Michael Kors bag, gold Chronograph watch by the same, & a fun pastel statement necklace I bought at Zara on my last day in Vancouver. Black Zara military-style jacket to top it off, though with the temperature hovering around 0°C & very little wind, I was actually not freezing without it (desperate Spring hopes of an Atlantic Canadian).

Celebrating Easter with the fam tomorrow & I'm looking forward to Easter presents, baking some pastel-coloured vegan goodies, & of course the very Easter-esque outfit I have set out.

How are you spending your Easter weekend? :)

Lace rip jeans - Silver Jeans

A Hint of Spring

Yes, I wore a crop top in -7°C weather. My mental processes must be baffling. That being said, the sun was shining it's brightest so how could I resist? (Also resulting in a majority of squinty-eyed photos). Instead of going with an overall bright look this morning I decided to infuse a basic/neutral outfit with small hints of Spring colour (pastel yellow satchel; a peachy orange lip). Heather grey & pastel yellow have always been one of my favourite colour combinations, especially for Spring transition looks.

This look is also chock full of super affordable pieces; the only exception being my Michael Kors ballet flats. H&M satchel & bangle, Joe Fresh printed skirt, & an old F21 crop top with lace cap sleeves (although I no longer shop at F21 for ethical reasons, I must admit I do love this little basic top; particularly for casual summer days... which today is sadly not), & vintage locket necklace. My hair was a tad messy, in pretty much the same wavy state as when I woke up, with a quick spritz of hair spray (I call it my "I'm pretending it's summer & I'm going to the beach & I don't care" hair ;)

It's hard to believe today is April 1st. I wish Mother Nature would say "Just kidding!" & make it Spring/Summer already. That being said there is something about the first of the month that always makes me feel so optimistic & refreshed. I'm about 2 week's ahead of my scheduled "To Do List", off to Nova Scotia in 3 weeks time, & looking forward to other lovely things coming my way (Prada sunnies, JC wedges, & some upcoming travels being among them). Life is pretty good :)

Hope you are all off to a wonderful beginning of April as well!
As always, thank you so much for reading <3
