Style Crush: Elle Fanning

It's impossible not to be charmed by Elle Fanning. She's poised, down-to-earth, full of energy and life—and one of the sunniest people you'll ever meet. She is also one of the best dressed. "Is it weird that I'm obsessed with a thirteen-year-old?" Alexa Chung once asked me. Among Elle's fashion admirers are Marc Jacobs (she starred in his fall Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign), Karl Lagerfeld (who hosted Elle, her father, and her grandma in Paris last summer for her very first fashion show, Chanel couture, bien sur), and Rodarte (with whom she's collaborated on a short film and whose dreamy clothes she wears to both school and bar mitzvahs as well as on the red carpet).

I'm with Alexa on this one. When I saw that particular quote back in January I immediately thought "I can relate to that." Although I'm always trying to break free of my overly girly style of the past, I can't help but admire Elle Fanning. Give me a feminine cut dress & a pair of mary-janes & I'm pretty much sold. It truly is a testament to my back-and-forth "see-saw" style. One day I'm lusting over spiked accessories & leopard print, the next it's whimsical braided hair & romantic pastels. Today is obviously of the latter category... ankle-strap-adorned white wedges, a pastel purple midi skirt, & lace thrown in for good measure... that's my dream outfit of the day. Blame it on the emerging Spring, but I'm filled with fanciful notions of fields of sunshine, quiet mornings in the garden back home, & reading novels in the hammock. I'm certainly aware it's not everyone's cup of tea, but for today, a little Elle inspiration suits this mood of mine just fine ;)

What's Inspiring Me Lately...

A miscellaneous handful of the things which have been inspiring my mood & style lately:

Dreaming of London, first & foremost
Colourful nails & lips
Simple, organized, white spaces
Clashing patterns - this floral & polkadot combination is one of my favourites
Simple & very me. My next tattoo, just don't know where to put it yet - suggestions?
Desperately wanting to fill my closet with blue pieces to create an all-blue look
Spring brights, patterns, & faux fur
Sunshine & big sunnies - I'm lusting for these Prada Baroque pair in particular...
Braided to perfection
A cosy work space
Bright pink lips

Before settling down to a night of study I intend to enjoy this gorgeous sunshiney day to the fullest. I'm going to pick out the cutest, brightest outfit I can find, put on my Elizabeth Arden hot pink lipstick, & shop, explore, & photograph the city to my heart's delight! Have a wonderful day everyone :)

Pinterest

When my mom of all people sent me an invite the other day I knew I was sadly behind the times. So in my very limited spare time (aka trying to procrastinate studying German) I created a Pinterest account.

As I'm sure many of you are aware, Pinterest is yet another social media platform which allows you to save & share ('pin') photos you find inspiring. I know I personally have at least a dozen folders on my desktop with photos I've seen & loved; with Pinterest I can keep them organized in one place by categorizing them onto various 'boards'.

If you haven't succumbed yet I warn you: it's terribly addictive! And if you do already have a Pinterest account please leave your username in the comments below for me to follow you! If you'd like to follow me you can find me right here :)

Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend - I'll have a new outfit post to share with you tomorrow! <3

Spring Musings // Nail Inspiration

Some nail colours I'm dying to put into action this Spring + a little bedside reading for sick day numéro deux
You'd think waking up to vehement snow flurries (in Vancouver of all places) would put a damper on my Spring enthusiasm. Well as it turns out, that's hardly the case. I can't get Spring/Summer off my mind! I've been dreaming of bright neon beauties, colour blocking, & wavy beach hair all day from the comfort of my cosy bed (perks of a sick day). I'm so excited to start planning & assembling my new Spring wardrobe.

I'm also excited to actually have nails to paint lovely bright colours this season. As you may recall one of my New Year's resolutions was to finally stop biting my nails. At the moment it's not going the greatest so I thought a little 'Nail Inspiration' was in order. When it comes to nail art I admittedly lean more toward the plain jane side of things. Here are some simple nail looks that I admire:

What are your thoughts on the Spring 2012 line of Chanel polishes (April, May, June - seen here)? As added motivation I think I'll treat myself once my nails get a little better! :)

Have a fabulous evening! <3

A little inspiration

With 5 long days in a row of work behind me I am one exhausted girl! I'm really looking forward to my next 2 days off, & am starting tonight with some relaxing classic movies like Casablanca, Sabrina, & The African Queen - delightful! :) As per the usual fatigued mind, inspiration is key. So I'd like to share with you, my lovely readers, some photos which have been particularly inspiring to me recently!

Ankle cuffs - probably my favourite trend right now! This photo via Tuula Vintage.

The stunning Kristina of Kayture.

Gorgeous details by Paula of Apple Blosson and The City.
Velvet wedges I'd just about die for....
How brilliant is this polka dot dress?! One of many lovely looks by Daniella of LellaVictoria.
Precisely my dream hair, a la Valentino.
More striking polka dots adorn this unqiue Stella McCartney jumpsuit. Worn by Valentina of Factory Style.

And that's that! What has been inspiring you lately & where have you found it? Please share, I'd love to know! :)

Closet full of clothes, nothing to wear

Without a doubt you all have felt that way at some point or another. You look at your closet, and feel utterly frustrated with lack of new options. Well for me, it certainly has been one of those days. Looking around currently, the room looks like a tornado swept through and hit my closet with skillful precision. I must have tried on 50 outfits this afternoon; all met with sighs of exasperation.

I know a closet crammed with shiny new clothes isn't a requirement for happiness. I know I DO have plenty to wear. I know today is just a bad day and tomorrow a great outfit will come to me in the blink of an eye. That being said, we all need a little inspiration, some days more than others - so here are a few inspirations that I'd like to share with you lovely followers:
