When in Doubt, Layer

Yesterday was a prime example of how unpredictable the weather can be in a coastal city. Over the course of the day it was grey without rain, grey with, sunny, sun showers, windy, warm, cold... pretty much all over the place. So when I had to get dressed for a lunch date with the girls I decided layering was probably key. 


My base piece was a ditzy floral printed sundress, layered with a creme lace-back cardigan, & military-green Spring jacket I got in Ireland a couple of years ago. I added a couple colourful bracelets from H&M, as well as a a vintage patent cross-body bag. I chose my Dolce Vita shoes mainly because they're the only pair which doesn't irritate my wounded ankle (care of my newest JC's). Fortunately they also happened to match. 


It turned out to be a fairly versatile look as I also wore it later for a walk along the Seawall (which quickly turned into hiding from the rain beneath trees overlooking Burrard Bridge), and later still when I went out for supper. I brought it from day to evening by switching the jacket for a blazer & the bracelets for my gold Michael Kors watch.

Winter Textures

While the below freezing temperatures here in Newfoundland really make me want to curl up & hibernate in bed, the show must go on. I stubbornly refuse to dress practically; no snow boots or bland bundling for me. Thankfully today the sun is shining gorgeously so I was able to get away with some mild layering, infused with a variety of winter-appropriate textures.

This amber yellow feather vest from Club Monaco was one of my early Christmas presents to myself (last seen here). It's unbelievably warm & cosy. Every time I wear it I've come to expect random people petting me haha. Velvet was something I was tiring of in the Spring weather of Vancouver; but snowy Newfoundland has revived my interest a little. It is the perfect Winter texture afterall. The third texture I incorporated into this look is lace (Vero Moda lace-back cardigan), for some added feminity. Granny-style grey lace-up boots, jewelled owl pendant, & wayfarer sunnies complete this simple Wintery look.

To make the most of this gorgeous day Mom & I are going for a drive down the coast, to my favourite place in the world - Bottle Cove. The scenery there is stunning in both Winter & Summer; so expect lots of photos tomorrow :)

As promised here is my outfit from yesterday. These new dotted tights from ASOS are incredibly fun to wear & to my delight, seem fairly durable. I'm really looking forward to pairing them with some other outfits in the future! And perhaps a pair with more dainty dots will come my way soon :) Other than that, I love the navy + light purple colour combination. In terms of cost-per-wear I have gotten a ridiculous amount of use out of this comfy navy batwing top (seen here & here). To make this outfit a little more work-appropriate I switched up the shoes & wore my Steve Madden black peep-toes. Et voila.

 I can't believe how much it doesn't look like December here! Sure it's a bit chilly out, but the grass is green as can be. It certainly doesn't feel so close to Christmas. Hopefully Ottawa will remedy that with lots of snow & opportunity to do some festive decorating & baking. Only 5 more days! Until then it's half Fleetwood Mac, half Christmas music.
